Coriolus versicolor, also known as Trametes versicolor and Polyporus versicolor, is a common polypore mushroom found throughout the world. Meaning "of several colors," versicolor mushrooms are commonly called "turkey tail" because its shape and multiple colors are similar to those of a wild turkey.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, and immunomodulatory activities of mushrooms. Specifically, mushrooms, such as Coriolus versicolor, increase the activity of lymphocytes – B-cells, T-cells, and especially natural killer (NK) cells. B-cells produce antibodies, whereas T-cells and NK cells destroy virally or bacterially infected cells and cells that have turned cancerous.
BIOMASS VERSUS EXTRACTS
Coriolus versicolor can generally be used in two forms: extract and biomass. Most Coriolus on the market is an extract, but current science increasingly suggests that biomass is superior because it also incorporates important immune-enhancing enzyme activity, such as superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, glucoamylase, and protease activities, which are not detected in the extracted forms of mushrooms.
This Coriolus mushroom powder is from mycelial biomass.
ADDITIONAL GROWING NOTES
The Coriolous versicolor mushroom is grown on organic brown rice.
The product is dried at a moderately low temperature to preserve the active enzymes.
